Report from the meeting of 29 September, 2011

South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.

One of the Panel members had a meeting with SAC regarding the installation of traffic-calming platforms in Alloway, outside Burns Cottage. The Panel feels this would not be suitable and should be situated further along the road so as not to lose parking spaces in the Main Street.

The next meeting of the Inclusive Design Awareness Seminar will take place on 24 October in Kilmarnock.

The Panel has decided to do an audit of the Burns Museum in Alloway due to problems both inside and out.

The Access Panel conference for SDEF was held on 7 September in Perth. A Panel member reported that it was a good meeting and was well attended.

The Naidex National Open Day was held at the SECC, Glasgow on 14 and 15 September. It was a good exhibition.

A free event is taking place on Thursday 20 October at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow 10am – 4pm, providing disabled people, family, carers and professionals access to information and workshops. The workshops include confidence booster, aromatherapy and relaxation, interactive cookery and loads more. If anyone is interested, register at the Ability Fest web site

The Panel was invited to the Community Planning Conference, County Buildings, Wellington Square, Ayr to be held on 28 October

Reports from previous meetings - November 2005 onwards - can be found in the News archive.
