Report from the meeting of 26 November 2009
South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.
The Panel were reassured that Kateaways - the new Cafe in Kyle Street, Ayr - does have disabled toilet facilities.
Ongoing planning applications this month include Glebe Crescent, Maybole. The Panel asked if a level platform could be increased in length to provide 900mm space from the sweep of the outward opening doors. This will allow wheelchairs to be manoeuvred without running away from the doors when opened. The side of ramp is close to a steep slope so it would be advisable to provide a handrail in this section. This has been agreed. A new planning consultation is for premises in Church Street, Troon. The Panel asked for the door to the accessible toilet to open outwards into the lobby to provide a greater space within the toilet. This would allow wheelchair users to have more space to manoeuvre wheelchairs.
The Panel were notified that the barriers at Cafe Nero, High Street, Ayr, had been returned to their propper positions. Panel members are to monitor the situation.
SDEF wrote to the Panel to advise of a training event on Recruiting and Supporting Volunteers which will be held in Shortlees Community Centre on 21 January 2010 from 11am – 4pm. A Panel member will attend.
The SDEF AGM will take place on 10th December, 2009 at Perth Concert Hall.
