Advertising boards all over the pavement!

Report from the meeting of 30 June, 2011

South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.

There is only one new planning application under consideration by the Panel this month; The Firehouse Restaurant in Kyle Street, Ayr have applied for outside seating. The Panel advised that, so long as it had containing barriers, there should not be a problem.

A Panel member reported that there are 2-way advert boards outside the new Tesco Express in Ayr High Street which is just an accident waiting to happen. These and some other A-boards in Carrick Street are to be reported to the Roads Department.

To boost the Panel's membership drive 5,000 leaflets were printed and are out there in council offices, libraries, doctor surgeries etc. The responce from the leaflets is very encouraging and it’s hopeful to bring new people through the door each month.

The Odeon Cinema has confirmed that all cinema screens will be upgraded, all with audio description. As yet, it is unclear whether the £20 charge for the loan of the equipment will remain.

With regard to dropped kerbs at Ayr Bus Station, a Panel member has reported that all work has been completed. Yellow crossing lines and tactile paving are still to be done,

The next Access Panel conference for SDEF will be held on 7 September probably at Perth.

Naidex National has been in touch with invitations along to their open day at Glasgow SECC on 14 -15 September 2011.

It was discussed briefly and ideas came to the table about having an open day in aid of the Access Panel to try to bring in new members and get the Panel name 'out there'.

Reports from previous meetings - November 2005 onwards - can be found in the News archive.
