Report from the meeting of 28 June 2007
South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.
Ongoing planning consultation considerations this month include residential properties in Barr, Prestwick, Coylton and Troon. New applications include a holiday park in Barrhill, a hotel and commercial premises in Ayr.
The Panel received emails from Cyprus and Ireland from people who had visited the area and found our Access Guides very useful. More copies of the Guides have been requested.
The Panel were advised that an audible cash dispenser has been fitted at the Ayr Branch of the Clydesdale Bank.
With regard to the Ayr Central Shopping Development, the Panel have been advised that work to correct some of the defects observed has been started and some 30 000 tactile studs had been positioned to delineate steps.
The Panel were advised that the speed limit in Ayr High Street is 20mph which they feel is far too fast! It was suggested that speed cameras should be placed at both ends of the High Street and that the speed limit should be reduced to 10mph. It was also felt that there should be more information available to disabled people about where to park in that area.
A Panel member pointed out the danger of the three steps which have materialised in the area joining Ayr High Street to the Old Brig. A Panel member is going to photograph these to show at the next meeting.
The Panel plans to continue with the Pavements are for People campaign to keep South Ayrshire pavements free from clutter.
Panel members reported that the audible crossing at Hunters Avenue in Ayr has now been repaired.
