Report from the meeting of 30 July 2009

South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.

It was suggested to the Panel that they have new leaflets printed and distributed to attract new members.

The only new planning application this month is a proposed access ramp at Barnford Crescent, Doonfoot, Ayr. This is only 1000mm wide and is required, under Building Standards regulations, to be at least 1200mm.

Despite funding issues and uncertainty over future premises, Shopmobility will be providing a service at Ayr Flower Show this year.

The Panel's concerns about A-boards at the entrance to the Lorne Arcade are being addressed by the Roads Department. Concerns were also raised about the barriers round the outside tables at Cafe Nero not always being sufficient.

The on-going problem at Belmont Academy of the disabled parking spaces being used by non-disabled drivers is being investigated by South Ayrshire Council.

The Panel have been advised that, although there is an entry fee for the car park at Kennedy Park, Dunure, use of the toilets there is free.

The Panel were advised that handrails have now been fitted at the Carlton Hotel, Prestwick Toll as per the Panel's request.

The Panel are to be consulted regarding rubbish in Ayr Town Centre. The Panel's views will be sought on the proposed locations, size, cost and emptying of the bins.

The SDEF Conference will be held in Perth on 15 September 2009.
