Report from the meeting of 31 January 2008

South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the environment, facilities and services in South Ayrshire available to all its residents.

Ongoing planning consultation considerations this month include: disabled car parking at Aviation House, Glasgow Prestwick Airport, access ramp at Craigie Mill, Bogend, Symington, access to Crossbie Tower, South Beach, Troon, access ramp to premises at Allan Place, Ayr, level access to Piersland Hotel, Troon, wider doorways at Drumshang Farm, Dunure and disabled parking spaces on Ayr Esplanade.

New planning applications include: provision of disabled toilets at the Balgarth Hotel, Ayr, handrails and level access at Forehill Primary School, Ayr and level access to premises at Ploughlands, Dundonald,

It was brought to the attention of the Panel that B+Q stores have a new scheme Can Do. It is a scheme that sells stairlifts/showers etc for disabled people. It sells quite a range of equipment that is disabled friendly. The Panel were shown pamphlets and it was agreed that it was a step forward and good to see that large organisations are at last starting to recognise the needs of disabled people.
