Report from the meeting of 25 January, 2007
South Ayrshire Access Panel meets on the last Thursday in each month and tackles issues relating to making the South Ayrshire environment, facilities and services available to all its residents.
The Panel had a guest speaker whose company produced braille and large print menus for restaurants. Panel members felt they could not promote a profit-making organisation, but said that the menus were a very good idea and the speaker's details were passed on to licencees during the Access Guide audit.
The Panel were shown a camera and laptop for the use of any member for Panel business. They will mainly be used by our secretary.
Planning consulatations under discussion this month included modificatins to a building in Daily, level access to a building in Blackburn Drive, Ayr, conversion of an old Prestwick Cinema in to a Hotel, level access to buildings in Prestwick, Troon and Coylton.
Various options for publishing the two new Access Guides are being considered.
A Taxi Driver Disability Awareness course took place at Ayr College in December. Panel members felt that a black cab would have been a better way to demonstrate rather than a minibus with a tail lift.
