Elma Mitchell MBE Memorial Award

Elma Mitchell was the first Convener of the Scottish Disability Equality Forum (SDEF). She worked tirelessly to promote social inclusion and equality. During this time, SDEF became the umbrella body for Access Panels in Scotland.

SDEF are commemorating her life and contribution by offering an anual award in the form of a competition for young people to write an essay (of no more than 1000 words) on the subject of disability. This can be their own experience or that of someone they know. It can be a topical discussion or illuminate problems; ongoing or which have been resolved. The essay can be in any format and there is a £500 prize and commemorative bowl for the winner.
